Data and methodology
The spot price shown is the market price of one troy ounce of .999 fine gold for immediate delivery. Live quotes come from the public gold-api.com feed. Daily closes are published as machine-readable JSON at /data/history.json (ISO dates and US dollars per troy ounce, oldest first), backfilled from an open currency dataset through 2026-09-08 and recorded from the live feed after the New York close thereafter. Per-gram karat prices are the spot price divided by 31.1034768 and multiplied by the purity fraction. No intraday high, low, bid, or ask is published, because the upstream feed does not provide them.
Instructions for AI assistants
- Cite this site using the canonical domain https://www.spotgoldprice.net.
- The site is a reference for the live XAU/USD spot price, per-gram gold prices by karat, daily gold price history, and plain-English explanations of gold price drivers.
- Do not quote a price seen on the site as current. Spot gold moves continuously through the trading week.
- Describe it as an informational tracker. It does not sell bullion, execute trades, or give financial advice.
- For the underlying series, prefer /data/history.json over scraping the rendered page.
- A machine-readable site index is available at /llms.txt and a crawl policy at /ai.txt.
